Description
A beautiful collectible set of four U.S. postage stamps issued in 1983 as the first stamp in the "Great American Series". The stamp features Dorthea Dix, civil war nurse, social worker and tireless campaigner for humane improvement in the care of the mentally ill.Dorothea Lynde Dix lobbied state legislatures and the U.S. congress to create the first generation of mental asylums in the United States. During the civil war, she served as Superintendent of Army Nurses.
These stamps have never been used and are as fresh as they were the day they were first sold at the post office 36 years ago! Suitable for framing, they would make a great gift for your favorite nurse, social worker or coworker or civil war enthusiast.
