Description

Ancient Liangzhu Culture Neolithic haunting "ghost" amulet of white "chicken bone" jade with incised designs with the characteristic Liangzhu "mask" which many believe later developed into the Taotie style known from much later Chinese dynasties.
It is believed by anthropologists that the Liangzhu Culture was a genetic contributor to Austronesian ethnic groups and had migrated to Taiwan from around 3000 to 1500 BC, then subsequently sailed to the Indo-Pacific Islands, merging with various indigenous ethnic groups which then became today's Austronesian/Oceanic cultures. this influence can certainly be seen in some of the artistic styles seen today amongst the indigenous populations in Micronesia and Oceania, such as in the jade Hei Tiki and Maori tattoos. The Hei Tiki bear a great resemblance to the Liangzhu mask seen on most of their artifacts.
